Depending upon whose numbers you use, and the degree to which those numbers reflect officially unemployed, under-employed and long-term discouraged workers, the country may have lost the equivalent of nearly 26 million full-time jobs during the 2007-2008 recessionary period.

Minnesota faces roughly $5 billion dollars in budget shortfalls over the comming years.  Even if any new tax proposals are implemented, residents of the state can count on "painful" budget cuts. Reductions in health care programs, business subsidies, and aid to cities and counties have all been discussed as prime targets for addressing budget woes.

Many of these programs affect the capacity of existing businesses to expand, new business capability to grow, and the ability of cities and counties to continue maintaining service levels.

Every one of these areas has some potential impact on saving jobs, job growth or the support of those who lose their jobs. Lake County's government and business employment outlook will not be immune to these effects.
